Crafts, Songs, Apps and Movement.

June 11, 2014

Hi everyone,

It’s end of Spring here almost Summer time here in New York. If you can look passed your child’s allergies and take in the flowers and trees, it’s a really nice season overall. Included in this post are resources/ideas for child friendly activities related to Spring/Summer.

Since I’m not a crafty person at all, I’m a big fan of things that can be made with whatever you can find lying around your house or apartment. Today I learned the word “bricolage” which means “construction achieved by using whatever comes to hand” This is what I’m talking about people! Plus I like to make suggestions that can be easily achieved.  Below are crafts, songs, apps and movement activities for your little ones. Hope you find something that suites you:

For all ages

Help Curious George plant some magic seeds

This website lists songs for everything. If you scroll down a bit there is a section titled, “Songs for Teaching Seasons and the Weather.” Forget about the teaching part and simply sing away. The titles are followed by the song’s lyrics. If you push the PLAY button on the top left corner, you can hear portions of the songs too.

For those that like to create:

above will show you step by step how to create a spring time masterpiece, or simply paint with a new tool.

For those that like to move:

This is the easiest activity of all. Simply gather up blankets or pillows. Then tell your child it’s time to pretend to be seeds. Make up a silly song and act out being a seed. Curl up in a ball. Then have your kids put the dirt on top (the blankets, pillows – just bricolage). Then count/sing and have your kids pretend to spray water and sunshine on the seed (that’s you). Then G-R-O-W. Expand the activity by waving your arms and fingers up to grow leaves, fruits and different colored flowers. 3 and 4 year olds will want  a turn to be seeds too.

Have fun being seeds, growing intro trees and singing about apples. In the next post, I’ll report in on some great books for this season too. Thanks again for taking the time to read this. Till the next post, take care.
