Caribou Baby, our little gem in Brooklyn.

April 04, 2014

When I first heard of Caribou Baby opening I truly felt that it was going to be a game changer for our little neighborhood. My main complaint while pregnant 4 years ago was that I didn’t feel we had a store that truly supported expectant mothers and mothers with young children on the items we wanted to build into our child’s life. Caribou has and continues to do an excellent job in knowing what we Brooklyn (and beyond) mothers need. I walk by this store every day and love the energy that it brings to our neighborhood. Now at 3 years old we share a little Q&A with store owner Adriane Stare.

If you are in the neighborhood this weekend Caribou Baby is having a 3rd Year Birthday Sale (April5th, 6th and 7th) with up to 70% off items such as Baby carriers and babywearing outerwear, Cloth diapers and diapering supplies, Maternity and nursing wear, Organic cotton and wool clothing, Shoes, Moses baskets, swaddles and other sleepy-time goodies and more!

MB: Congratulations on your anniversary. Three years ago you opened Caribou Baby! I feel you are an important hub to this community and so happy you are here. How do you feel that our mom/parent community has changed in the last 3 years?

AS: Thank you! We are so thrilled to have been embraced by this amazing community of mothers and parents. We've definitely noticed recently how many more families are in the hood, wow! I feel that tight-knit, supportive mom's groups that were only just starting to form a few years ago are now becoming par for the course. It's great to see our local parents having so many resources to tap into and networking opportunities with one another. It's especially nice to see that terms like "woven wraps" or "prefolds" are also becoming main stream, even among the expectant parents we meet too ;)

MB: Caribou Baby seems to have a strong online business, do you have plans in expanding online or store wise?

AS: We have been really trying to grow our online presence in the past few years - thank you for noticing! My being not pregnant or having to tote around a newborn has certainly had a recent impact on that endeavor this last year. :) Our guiding principle has always been to provide excellent customer service and helpful resources for our clientele (both on the web and in-store).... so online, this translates into a maintaining a reliable and easy shopping experience for customers, or babywearing tutorial videos for those that live far away. For our geeky parents and research-types, we are planning on rolling out a blog in the near future to continue in the knowledge sharing! We would love to open up more brick and mortar stores, but are spending 2014 perfecting our current systems and making sure that we are building up our infrastructure in a smart way.

MB: Any new lines you are excited about that are now at Caribou?

AS: Gosh, there are so many great things happening at Caribou these days! We have adorable suede maryjanes in from Zuzii. We also just stocked Tula Carriers, one of the best buckle carriers on the market that might just give Ergobaby a run for it's money ;) And although it might not be the most "exciting" thing to others, all our staff are freaking out over our new line of Melinda G nursing bras. They come in about a million sizes, so that no body or boob type goes unsupported!
