Basketball Summer Camp in Williamsburg
I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Williamsburg Northside Schools is hosting a Basketball Camp this summer. Check out the details of this camp here. Since this camp is one of kind is our neighborhood I asked the peeps at Williamsburg Northside Schools Summer Basketball Camp a few questions:
MB: Tell us about your basketball camp, my son just started basketball this season, I had no idea there was a basketball camp in the neighborhood so this is exciting!
What should we expect the kids to learn /experience at the camp?
WNSSBC: Our basketball camps offer a wide variety of inclusive games and activities that will educate players in a fun environment. Where at all possible we avoid line drills, whistles and the barking of instructions - this 2015 not 1975!
All the kids (regardless of ability level) get to play small-sided games and full court games - coaches will instruct as the game goes on. Aside from the actual basketball instruction each camper will experience an atmosphere that promotes positive values, good sportsmanship, teamwork and most of all FUN!
MB: What does a day at the camp consist of?
WNSSBC: A typical day on camp will follow this routine:
- 9AM Warm ups, ball skills, move of the day!
- 10AM Skill development, fun games and drills
- 12 PM Lunch
- 1PM Conditioned scrimmages, Video Analysis
- 2:30PM Daily tournament, player showcase, recaps of day
Skills covered in the week include Ball Familiarity, Dribbling, Passing, and Shooting. These are coached with individuals, groups and during the game and modified for all ability levels
We also have theme days to make it fun for the kids - these will include: crazy hair day, wear your favorite NBA colors, Whacky Wednesday etc.
MB: What times are the before and after care?
WNSSBC: For an additional fee ($169 for the week), we do offer before care / after care. Times are 8am to 9am and 4pm to 5:30pm
We have a separate classroom booked where kids can watch sports videos, NBA games etc.
