Flu? Try some onion soup

January 10, 2013

With so many of our friends feeling ill with the flu and so many friends out of school this past week, I thought I might post a great soup recipe for all to feel better.

Onion Soup has long been know to have healing powers! Filled with thiosulfinates, sulfoxides, and other odorous cysteine sulfoxides, onions are noted for their anti-inflammatory properties. Think of that stuffed up nose or chest cough! Kids have the flu? Be proactive and have some soup too. Onions also have anti-viral qualities.

Get Better Onion Soup

  • 3 large organic yellow onions
  • 3 organic cloves of garlic
  • 1/4 cup of fresh, finely-chopped organic oregano
  • 4 cups of purified or distilled water
  • Add Himalayan salt or grey salt to your taste

Chop both the onions and the garlic into cubes. Bring water to boil and add onions, garlic and oregano. Let simmer for 15 minutes, or until you notice that the onions are translucent and soft. Drink the hot soup and allow the body temperature to rise enough to induce mild sweating and most important relax!
