As I mentioned last week I had a work trip I was attending this week. Lucky me Rockport Shoes invited me to go to Venice, Italy. OMG! I returned last night and I don’t think I have ever enjoyed a work trip so much. I have never been to Italy and it was beautiful. I can honestly say I have never eaten so much and the food was just off the charts. Yes I did work but it was fun work, we (fellow editors) were treated to see how their shoes are made, a shoe museum and a fun walking tour as well as a night out at the opera. Opera! All on my bucket list! However to be honest I at first was unsure about going, I was nervous to leave my son for another trip although I felt that going was important for my job. I have some mom friends who go on ‘girls trips’ leave for over a week to go on vacation. I on the other hand hate leaving my son. I start missing him so much my heart aches and I find myself saying no to a lot of fun opportunities. With this trip I knew it was important not only professionally but also for me as a mother. I needed to get out and be a bit more independent and I have been needing a break from my home life which I did feel guilty about but I have been tired and feeling a lot like a maid. Did I appreciate the maid service, amazing view and someone taking care of me while being in ITALY?! Yes! Maybe I am a helicopter mom, intense Latin mom, crazy mom but my bursts of independence have to happen in a way that feel comfortable to me. I know I am lucky to have a job where I am offered these great trips and not all moms get these opportunities. However as I mentioned last week even the little things you do for yourself have a positive effect on you as a mother and remembering to do them is important and when a fun occasion or event is presented to us we can be open to accepting it for we deserve it!
