The Wonder of Learning is a FREE, unique showcase of innovations in early childhood education from Reggio Emilia, Italy, that will make for a fun, enriching after-school or weekend activity for parents and young children. It guides parents and educators in how to think like children in order to best teach them. The exhibit includes two beautiful places for children to experiment and play with light, and shadows, and natural materials (pic here: http://goo.gl/4plXyT).
WHO: Educators, parents, school administrators, policy makers, and anyone involved in or interested in education will find this exhibit a valuable opportunity to discover techniques in early childhood teaching and learning. Children are welcome, too!
Admission is open to the public and free of charge.
WHAT: The Wonder of Learning provides a comprehensive view into the world-renowned Reggio Emilia educational approach as it has been practiced in early childhood centers in Reggio Emilia, Italy since the end of World War II.
The exhibit has been touring the United States, Europe, Canada, Asia, and Mexico since 1987, and has inspired government and business leaders, educators, artists, families, and communities to recognize the extraordinary potential of children’s learning and creativity.
The exhibit, which showcases children's work and techniques -- creating artwork from recycled materials, experimenting with writing for the first time, encountering light and other natural phenomena, and more -- aims to expand visitors' understanding of children's approach to collaboration and relationship-based learning.
January 15, 2014 through May 15, 2014.
The exhibit will be open to the public on Weds-Sun from 12-6pm, and until 8pm on February 4th, March 5, April 2, and May 7.

WHY: In the midst of Mayor Bill De Blasio's efforts to institute Universal Pre-K, New York City is ready to continue the discussion with a hands-on exploration of how children are learning and growing according to various innovative approaches. The Wonder of Learning gives visitors a view into Reggio Emilia's potential for changing how children encounter their first years of education in NYC and around the world.
