Summer Dream Nursery

June 09, 2017

We asked Brooklyn design guru (follow her gorgeous instagram!) Sarah Bean to come up with a summer nursery since we are all in baby mode (when are we not...) here at Motherburg. The results? Pure magic.

Glider:

Mini Jakes is a great place for nursery furniture. A good quality glider is a must-have for expecting parents. The Monte Gliders are an investment but worth it and hold their value. Put it on your registry and maybe a few people will chip in together. You could also check your local list serve for one second-hand. That's how I got mine and it’s still going strong after many nights rocking a now 6-year-old and 2-year-old to sleep. The gliderpictured is in Stone - a perfect warm grey that can go with any color palette now or in the future.

Blanket:

A blanket adds great color to a nursery or a kid's room. Until a child is old enough to safely use a one for sleeping  it will look beautiful on the back of your glider or hung on the side of the crib. I love Pendleton’s blankets as they're colorful and durable. The patterns are sophisticated and can be used for years to come.Flying Squirrel has a few styles in-stock locally.

Pillow & Artwork:

I love adding a pillow or two to my glider set up. They add comfort for positioning while feeding the baby and look beautiful, too. Coral and Tusk has many to choose from. The art work will also make a statement in any room but can be expensive. While it’s worth it if you're on a budget framing the embroidered stationery is an easy DIY and budget friendly way to have your own Coral and Tusk piece.

Mobile:

A mobile works well over a crib or changing table. Baby will enjoy it and they look beautiful. A wood material brings in a nice natural texture and color. Mini Jakes has a large selection.

Wave’s Stacking Blocks:

I love choosing Grimms toys for my kids' rooms but they also make a great shower gift. They look beautiful and will be played with when baby is older. Pick one that has colors that go with the nursery color scheme. Matt & Juliette carries a large selection of Grimms wooden toys.

Crib:

The Oeuf Sparrow Crib is a classic piece. Well made with clean lines, this crib has two heights and can easily transform into a toddler bed when your child is ready. Mini Jakes has a few styles in store. I love the birch. This is another big ticket item but a piece that will hold up. This is another item I’ve seen available preloved on list serves, Craigslist and Apt Deco.

Crib Sheet:

Lewis Home designs crib sheets in whimsical yet modern patterns in high-quality organic cotton. The company was founded by two Brooklyn Moms - one an illustrator and one an architect - who wanted to find crib sheets that are “childlike, not childish”. You can’t go wrong with any of them. The Seaweed in gender neutral  Denim is my current favorite.

Sheepskin:

A sheepskin adds texture and dimension to any room. The environmental friendly ones available at Wild Was Mama are a perfect first playmate for baby. The sheepskins are all natural, hypo allergenic and temperature controlling.

Hansa Stuffed Animals:

These Hansa Birds are the perfect finishing touch to a baby’s room. Even though Sweet William is on hiatus from Brooklyn you can find a curated selection of kids clothes, gifts and nursery treasures including a large selection of sweet Hansa animals online.
