Summer lovin', not my favorite season yet in the end I give in and enjoy.

July 07, 2018

We are a few weeks into summer, and I have to say I am not a fan of summer. I hate the heat. I hate the whining the comes along with the heat (both from me and my kids - ha!). I hate that despite wearing as little as you can in public, you are still sweating. But, some pretty amazing perks are found in the summer months. First off, it’s my birthday!  Yay!  Second, because I’m lucky also to have summers off, I rarely have to hustle. I rarely have to wake my kids up and rush to get them ready and pack lunches and double check that homework is done.  And lastly, we just get to be. We get to go on fun family adventures. We get to eat late dinners. We get to stay at the beach until the crowds go home.

Now I know not everyone has the same summer experience as I do. Many mamas still have to hustle to get kids ready for daycare or summer camp. But at least there is no homework - right?!?  Haha. But even with busy lives, we can all agree that summer slows things down. The days are longer. Time stands still. We all take a breath.

So, despite the heat, I can enjoy the summer for what it is. I love the time with my family that is more mellow, more relaxed, more fun. Often so many fun milestones happen during the summer. Independent swimming. Huge growth spurts that mean they can ride the roller coaster. And time spent with extended family - and it’s so fun to see my kids with their grandparents, cousins, and aunts and uncles. Fun to see those relationships thrive in the summer heat. Fun to have experiences with our extended family that we just don’t have time for during the school year.

So, I’ll grab a large cold brew with extra ice, sit back, and watch my kids enjoy the season.
