Parents are crazy these days
I got on the elevator after grabbing lunch and 3 people from the other company in my building were going on and on about how crazy parents are these days. Organic this, fair trade that. How could you use xyz? Don’t you know its bad for kids/world/the rest of us!
I chuckled to myself because I AM THAT PARENT SOMETIMES!
When I got pregnant I became a professional researcher! There wasn’t any subject that I didn’t thoroughly research - vaccines, food and nutrition, schools, clothing! I loved it. I felt like getting ready for baby had opened my eyes to so much more of life. Suddenly everything I ate or wore seemed much more important than it had been.
Still I get the trio’s frustration. There is nothing more annoying than a parent who isn’t flexible with their high-mindedness. I try to remember that when my daughter reaches for a second cupcake, any sort of candy or refuses to go to bed (Its almost 10pm and you have school in the morning!)!! I try instead to savor sweet moments of rebellion and special exceptions. Those moments are some of my most cherished childhood memories.
